Remember !

Remember those moments of your childhood when you grabbed the remote control and wriggled impatiently when the credits of your favorite cartoon started. Remember the first music notes, remember the sound of lasers when they shoot on spaceships. And these pictures, these pictures of interstellar cruisers crossing your screen to make you travel light-years away from here, in unknown worlds populated by improbable mysteries and extraterrestrial races. An era of heroes and vigilantes, a time of which you are the heirs.

I was like you, too. I dreamed with my eyes wide open in search of the destiny that awaited me in the stars. And today we are here, the head filled with memories and nostalgia of this time when we were sailing in the constellations with our heroes.

In honor of this golden age and to perpetuate it, I created THE SHÕNEN AVENGERS project :

What is that ?

THE SHÕNEN AVENGERS is a project that brings together for the first time all the badass heroes of the Japanese animated series of the 80s. Imagine : Harlock, Cobra, Ulysses, Grendizer, Lion-o, Jayce and many others, all back for our greatest pleasure in a new adventure !

THE SHÕNEN AVENGERS is a real tarot game, fully illustrated by me and intended for collectors, geeks and of course tarot enthusiasts. Each of the cards is illustrated on the theme of cult heroes from the 70s to the 80s, in a graphic style halfway between Art Nouveau and pop culture. Composed of 78 illustrated cards, including 22 assets, the tarot deck THE SHÕNEN AVENGERS started in 2015 is a huge work of research and illustration to offer fans a true collector’s item of quality.

But above all, THE SHÕNEN AVENGERS is especially a tribute to the creators, writers, character designers and producers of all these characters who rocked our childhood and became cults today.

In these famous animated cartoons there were the charismatic characters, but also their incredible machines or intergalactic ships! THE SHÕNEN AVENGERS is also an opportunity for us to finally see these great machines fighting together their terrible enemies. For that I made a series of additional illustrations that represent some of these great battles that any fan would dream to see:

In order to publicize the THE SHÕNEN AVENGERS project and collect the first impressions from the fans and the public, several exhibitions have been organized in different cultural social circles. From the artistic collective VITRINE FRAICHE to the specialized fair MADE IN ASIA, several worlds met and shared their common nostalgia around these illustrations.

The 22 assets are embodied by famous cartoon characters from the 80s, while the 56 suites are represented by an armada of allied or enemy ships, depending on the color. For example one of the four colors will be represented by the Vega’s forces (UFO Grendizer) with his flying saucers and his figures, namely: Blaki, Zouril, Lady Gandal and Gandal.

The choice of a game of tarot compared to a traditional card game has obviously imposed itself by the size and the number of cards, but also by the peculiarity of the rules of the game of tarot. For example, the Call to the King lets imagine wild parties where unlikely associations could emerge with the twists that imagine if the players are roling the game. We are not there yet, far from it. The realization of such a project requires a maximum of effort and attention. My main goal is to bring it to fruition in the best possible conditions.
However, we must admit that the tarot game is only the affordable part of the project, that’s why I decided to undertake it alone. But THE SHÕNEN AVENGERS is indeed a much larger and more ambitious project. The demand is there, the fans are always present, they have not forgotten those heroes that made us dream during our childhood, some even today have responsibilities that could make all this possible. So let’s dream together …
